- Suzanne Atkin
- Public Speaking Program Coordinator
Portland State University
MySpeechLab/MyCommunicationLab - I hold two Bachelor of Science degrees: BS Communication Studies and BS Social Sciences and graduated with honors, receiving my Master of Science Degree in Communication Studies with an emphasis in pedagogy and workplace communication. I have had excellent opportunities (both while in school and since graduating) to teach a variety of speech and communication courses, from Basic Speech Communication to Computer Mediated Communication. I also currently consult with professional organizations where I apply my knowledge of communication, culture, conflict response, and management (www.workplaceharmony.com).
- These rewarding experiences involve development, delivery, and evaluation of coursework and training materials. My work in the classroom and in the workplace provided me with the inspiration for my master's project: Communicating Change: Training for Organizational Managers. By integrating relevant theories with personal pedagogical and workplace experiences, I improved change protocol in my workplace and in the classroom. I continue that work through workplace consulting and training, as well as teaching.
- Communicating with a diverse population such as urban and rural, community colleges and universities, as well as non-traditional students has excited me to be a part of their success and the most satisfying experience for me as an instructor has been encouraging students to become critical readers, thinkers, and writers. Moreover, the classroom environment is progressing to a very technological one and I am promoting that change within my positions of instructor and trainer through computer mediated learning. Through collaboration and exploration I bring success to my students and the programs I am a part of.
